Hello, my name is Gail Holeman Miller(pictured in black shirt). My Dad & Mom, Preacher Bill and Joyce Holeman(pictured in the center) are amazing people that, before my birth, God called them from Los Angeles, California and told them to head for the mountains of Kentucky to serve as missionaries. Mom & Dad had a rule in our house; all of their children, Susan(far left) Gary (far right) Eddie (white shirt) would take one year of piano lessons. Well, I decided very soon that this WAS for me and I practiced all the time. I loved it. I took lessons from 1st grade through 12th grade. When I graduated from school I got married to my childhood sweetheart, Ronnie Miller, and had a couple of beautiful daughters; Veronica and Kristal. I knew that I would not be able to leave them with a babysitter to get a job, so I decided to start taking piano students in my home. I didn’t know if I was even good enough to teach students how to play, but I thought I would give it a try.
Well, that was over 30 years ago and I am retired now. I have never actually counted how many students I taught over the past 30 years, but I know it is a up in the thousands. I averaged 60 students per week. I go into the grocery store or Walmart and I see ladies shopping and they see me and say “Hi Mrs. Miller” and I know by the look on their face that they used to be one of my students. My first question to all of them is “Well, are you still playing the piano?” I loved those years of teaching and I would encourage anyone to do the same – it really added purpose in my life.
